If you were a wee person in the late 1940’s and early to mid 1950’s....then perhaps you’ll remember these characters from your flickering Black and White television… Bill and Ben ; Muffin the Mule; Andy Pandy; The Cisco Kid ; The Lone Ranger. Or how about comics...? Desperate Dan; Beryl the Peril; Lord Snooty; Korky the Cat. You would also remember listening to the wireless…Or going to the children’s Saturday Matinee at the local cinema…..Playing street games like Peevers or Hop Scotch…Getting your head checked for Nits…. and maybe getting bathed in the deep sink in the kitchen. That would lead on to your pre-teenage years when Bill Hayley and the Comets took the music world by storm ...and Rock and Roll was born, as Bill and his band...Rocked Around The Clock… Then came the Swinging Sixties , when , as a teenager , you would be blown away by the music of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones , while dressing in the latest fashion trends from Carnaby Street….Namely winkle-picker shoes and Italian suits for the boys... and mini-skirts and bee-hive hair styles for the girls. What a great time to be alive, and if the foregoing snippets reawaken a longing for your childhood….then this is the book is for you. If, however, you know nothing of what I speak….but would love to learn more about it…..then this also is the book for you. So join me in A Sprint Down Memory Lane, which is sometimes nostalgic, occasionally sad, but ultimately is a joyous and funny collection of memories from a wee person who grew up in these times…..and is eternally grateful for the experience.
