Book review

In the dark of night, a small Alabama town sleeps unaware of a horror that is about to happen. Locks on windows and doors cannot keep the evil from silently slipping into the home of Bessie and Mose Thompson. Searching the faces of the children, the Ku Klux Klan finds the one they have come for. They drag him from his bed. His screams for help will resound through the years reminding the town of a shameful past.

His lynching has a profound effect on a young white girl named Tillie. In this Norman Rockwell setting, and loving family, she grows up in the shadow of bigotry, often tormented by dreams of her murdered friend. As a young lawyer, she is obsessed with finding his murderers and bringing them to justice. Danger lurks for herself and those close to her, as she plunges into the depths of the mystery.
